Ballard and Morgan shine for England's youth

Southampton Academy duo Dom Ballard and Jimmy-Jay Morgan continued their club goalscoring form with their country over last week.

B team top scorer Ballard scored three goals in three games for England's Under-18s as they secured maximum points in the Costa Calida Supercup tournament.

The first game saw Neil Ryan's side come up against Netherlands at Pinatar Arena, where a late winner from Chelsea's Leo Castledine ensured a 1-0 win as Ballard played the final 20 minutes.

Gameday two saw a start for the Saints' forward, who scored twice at either end of the game in a 2-1 victory over Faroe Islands.

Finally, on Monday morning, England once again looked to Ballard to claim the three points, coming off the bench to score an 85th minute winner during the 2-1 win against Belgium.

Down an age group with the Under-17s saw a strong Saints contingent feature for Ryan Garry's side in the Syrenka Cup.

First up was the Czech Republic on Friday, where Nathanael Boot made his Three Lions debut starting from the off, whilst Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Morgan featured from the bench.

Morgan made his impact count on 64 minutes, netting the first of the 3-0 win.

His goalscoring touch carried over into the next fixture, where England failed to get the better of a talented Norway side on Sunday.

Morgan scored his second in as many games in the 91st minute, as his country fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Elsewhere it was a successful couple of days for Matt Carson and Northern Ireland's Under-19s in the European Championship qualifiers held at Sportpark Marsdijk.

West Ham's Patrick Kelly scored both goals during the 2-2 draw with Slovenia on Wednesday, with Carson playing the duration.

This was followed by a testing 0-0 draw with Netherlands on Saturday, where the Saints' full-back was again involved for the full 90.

These results mean Ireland sit third in Group M after two games, two points behind Slovenia and Netherlands who sit in 2nd and 1st respectively.

Carson and his nation face Moldova in their final qualifying match on Tuesday 27th at 6.30pm BST.
