Nathan Jones has highlighted the importance of utilising his Southampton squad with their busy schedule continuing in both cup and league competition.

Having faced Newcastle in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, the boss could look to rotate his side heading into Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup clash.

With the second leg of the semi-final approaching as well as an important trip to Brentford in the league, Jones will look to all available individuals within his Saints side.

“What we have to do is use the squad because it’s relentless, the schedule has been relentless, you can’t just go with the same 11.

“We have to pick a team that can win the game and we have to realise we have a cup semi-final against a side that won’t play this weekend.

“We have to make sure we are competitive in all games.”

The boss also provided a positive injury update, stating that some players will be back and available for selection in the upcoming fixtures.

“There will be a few coming back, there will be a few we’ll be able to include that we weren’t on Tuesday night which is a positive and a good thing going into the second half of the season.”
