Three of Southampton’s Academy stars have received call-ups for England’s UEFA European Under-17s Championship qualifying round.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan, Tyler Dibling, and Jayden Meghoma have all been included in Ryan Garry’s squad for their Group 3 games in Tiblisi, Georgia, over the next week.

This is the first stage of qualifying for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championships in Hungary next summer, as England look to return to the finals for the first time since 2019.

England will face Lithuania, Georgia, and Israel as part of the four-team qualification group; the top two teams will join top seeds Netherlands and Spain in the elite round, along with the four third-placed teams with the best records against the top two in their section.

Both Morgan and Meghoma have previously featured for England’s under-17s, whilst Dibling will be hoping to make his first international appearance for that age group.

Attack-minded Morgan has been in fine form for Dave Horseman’s B team this season.

The 16-year-old has five assists in five games in Premier League 2, whilst also featuring in the Papa Johns Trophy and scoring twice against Portsmouth in the Hampshire Senior Cup.

He has made five appearances at England under-17 level, scoring three goals, adding to his three goals in seven appearances for the under-16s.

Left-back Meghoma, who joined Saints’ academy earlier in October, is the most-capped of the trio, having featured for the Young Lions from the under-15s through to the under-17s age groups.

He has 14 international appearances in total, with three for the under-17s.

Meanwhile, Dibling has only featured four times on the international stage before.

The midfielder scored on his debut in a 2-1 win over Turkey, the first of his four caps for the under-16s team.

He has featured alongside both Morgan and Meghoma in all of his England appearances to date.

England’s UEFA European Under-17s Championship qualifying round schedule is as follows:

England vs Lithuania (12pm kick-off BST)

England vs Georgia (3pm kick-off BST)

Israel vs England (2pm kick-off GMT)
