Southampton Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of young goalkeeper Jak Stewart on a professional deal.

The 18-year-old joins as a free agent until June 2023 following the end of his contract at Everton, where he spent the majority of his career having joined from Manchester City at Under-15s level.

During his time at the Toffees he established himself as part of the Under-18s set-up, making eight league appearances in the 2021/22 campaign.

Following his move down south, Stewart said: “I think this move is a good fit for both of us really.

“All the lads have been really welcoming. I know a couple of them from playing with them at [Manchester] City.

“The coaching staff that I’m working with now show belief and that just allows you to go to a different level.

“The ultimate goal is to try and play first-team. But there’s a process to it and I want to be ready for it.”

Academy goalkeeper coach Steve Grinham said: “Jak is a good addition for both the Under-18s and the B team.

“He’s someone who will come in and help support both programmes. We know from having him in sessions that he’s good on the ball, got a good range of pass.

“We’ve got a programme in place now that will try and help Jak get to his full potential and be as good as he can be."
