Nathan Tella made his debut for Burnley in the Championship on Friday, as Vincent Kompany’s side suffered a narrow defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road. This and more in this week's Loan Watch ...

With Tella’s move to the Championship outfit only confirmed on Thursday, the 23-year-old was instantly put to test as he came on as a substitute in the 62nd minute.

Burnley, who conceded in time added on in the first half, turned to the Saints loanee to find a way back into the contest, with Tella looking to become a mainstay in Kompany’s team.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Stoke City fell to a 3-1 defeat to Huddersfield, with Will Smallbone making his second consecutive start for Michael O’Neil’s side in league competition.

Smallbone also made a substitute appearance in Stoke’s first round Carabao Cup tie with Morecambe in midweek, coming up against fellow Saints loanee Caleb Watts.

It was the latter who emerged on the winning side, with Morecambe claiming victory on penalties at the Globe Arena, with both of the Saints loanees finding the back of the net for their respective sides in the shoot out.

The League One outfit then managed a draw with Fleetwood Town on Saturday, with Watts once again coming off the bench to help aid Morecambe’s performance.

It was a tough day at the office for Dan Nlundulu and Cheltenham Town on Saturday, as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat when they faced Portsmouth.

While Nlundulu was rested in Cheltenham's Carabao Cup clash with Exeter City, Kegs Chauke featured in an emphatic 7-0 victory for City at Whaddon Road.

Thierry Small also made his Carabao Cup debut for Port Vale, featuring in their 2-1 defeat to Rotherham Town in midweek.

In the National League, Jack Bycroft retained his place between the sticks for Taunton Town, though they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Concord Rangers.

Across the border, Kazeem Olaigbe was brought on as a substitute shortly after St Mirren took the lead over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, with the youngster unable to make a difference to the overall score line.
