Ralph Hasenhüttl was assertive in his messaging when quizzed on Southampton's approach to Tuesday night's Brentford clash, against the backdrop of an intense FA Cup encounter against Swansea at the weekend.

Saints competed for over 90 minutes with a man less, eventually overpowering the Swans in extra-time, which took a lot of investment and energy, Ralph admitted, but that won't change the game plan against Brentford.

The manager was steadfast in his comments about his team's mentality and how they plan to go about business against Thomas Frank's side, despite still suffering with key players missing as a result of injury and Covid-19.

"You can be sure that we'll be ready for going again, 90 minutes," Hasenhüttl said. "We're known for our intensive way of playing football. We will not change it for any reason.

"Tactically I think we have made a few steps forward [this season]. With a wider squad I have more options now to adapt the game plan. This is our biggest strength in the moment.

"We have other shapes that we can always switch to. This is not always then easy for an opponent to prepare for us, I think.

"It is important for us that we have showed at home that we are defending our castle, if you like. Yes we haven't lost that many at home.

"Every point is helpful. To change sometimes the defeats we had into draws is a big step forward, in my opinion. The next step is then, these tight games, when we are one up, we can score the second or the third goal.

"Because that makes it easier to come over the line with the three points."
