It's a return to Premier League 2 action for Southampton's B team, who travel to Norwich City on Friday evening.

THE MATCH

Norwich City vs Saints
Premier League 2
Lotus Training Centre
Friday 18th December, 7pm GMT

After an impressive performance but ultimately no reward in last week's Premier League Cup game against Division One side Arsenal, Saints will be facing another test as Premier League 2 action returns for the final time in 2021.

Last-time-out in league action Dave Horseman's side travelled to an experienced Stoke City side, where goals from Sam Surridge and an Abdallah Sima double secured a 3-0 win for the Potters.

The Canaries were last in PL2 action at the start of December, where a Thomas Dickson-Peters hat-trick inspired a 5-2 win at home to Reading.

A win for Saints could see them rise to as high as sixth, whilst Norwich can place second at the end of play with other results go their way.

LAST MEETING

Saints and Norwich last met in mid-August, in what was the current Premier League 2 season's opener at Staplewood Campus.

The visitors took the lead after just 18 minutes, Abu Kamara with his first on what was a prolific day for the forward.

His second came just past the half-hour mark, before he added a third five minutes before the hour.

Norwich came away with a 3-0 victory, giving Saints their first tough lesson of the season.

MANAGER'S NOTES

"We played them earlier in the season and they were a good team," said Horseman. "They beat us 3-0 and were a good passing side.

"We'll have to get the press right and the press will have to last for 90 minutes otherwise what happened against Arsenal will happen against them.

"If we do that we'll be in the game. I don't think we're due any back from injury so it'll be a similar type of squad to this one.

"We'll go and have a right good go at them."
