Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl admitted his side’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at St Mary’s was a deserved result despite coming from behind to lead during the second half.

Burnley took the lead on 13 minutes, Maxwel Cornet with his first of the afternoon before Tino Livramento’s first Southampton goal levelled the tie before the interval.

The tide well and truly turned shortly after the break; Armando Broja marking his second successive start with a second successive goal after a burst into the box.

Three minutes shy of the hour mark the visitors equalised once more, Cornet with his second of the afternoon.

“First half, very good,” said the manager. “A lot of chances for our side but we only scored once.

In the end we take a point and keep going.

“Then a good first ten minutes of the second half where we came out really good, very sharp.

“We then lost a little bit because of the equaliser. Finally in the second half they had more chances so a draw in the end was a deserved result.

“This team [Burnley] never gives up. They play a lot of long balls and are always a threat. We know this is tough to defend in some moments when you’re not really 100%. So in the end take a point and keep going.”
