Samuel Edozie hopes to get Southampton supporters off their seats with excitement after signing a five-year deal at St Mary’s.

The 19-year-old winger joins former Manchester City teammates Roméo Lavia, 18, and Gavin Bazunu, 20, in joining Saints this summer.

A quick and skilful attacker, who likes to run at defenders, Edozie is determined to make his mark on the Premier League.

“I’d say I’m an exciting player – very direct, I like to attack players at pace, but I like to do the defensive side as well, get back and defend, and help the team,” he said.

“I like to go on a lot of one v ones and get the crowd off their seat, so hopefully that’s something I can do here.

“I’d say I’m most comfortable on the left, but I like to play on the right as well and I like to develop that side of the game.

“I think a player that has versatility and can play both left and right is a better player as a whole.”

Edozie revealed he spoke to both Lavia and Bazunu prior to making the move, and has enjoyed watching the pair flourish in the first month of the season.

“I’ve seen the club like to play a lot of young players,” he said. “I used to play with Roméo and Gavin, and they’ve both played a lot, so it’s definitely something at my age in my career that I just want to play as much first-team football as possible.

“I saw Roméo scored the other day, so I was very proud of him for that, but it seems like a team I could fit very well into, and I’m excited to get started.

“I’ve had positive conversations. It’s given me an insight into what the club is like and the atmosphere amongst the team, so it’s all positive things.

“It seems like a great team. I’ve watched most of the games this season – they’ve had some big wins.”
