Southampton FC Girls’ and Women's programme sees expansion to FA Professional Game Academy.

Ahead of the 23/24 season Southampton Football Club Girls’ and Women’s programme is seeking expressions of interest from prospective players to join their growing Girls’ & Women’s Academy.

Following Saints submission to the Football Association to grow the Academy into an FA Professional Game Academy, building on the already very successful work in their Girls’ and Women’s programme and the development seen across the sport, Saints are looking to recruit in the key age groups of U21, U16 & U14.

On the exciting expansion of the programme, Academy Manager Mark Nicholls said:

“This is a hugely exciting time for Girls’ & Women’s football and a great opportunity for young players.

“Southampton’s reputation for developing potential into excellence is richly deserved and an outstanding environment for young female players.”

Head of Women’s Football Marieanne Spacey-Cale also commented on the expansion, saying:

“Here at Saints, we’ve been building on some great foundations with our Girls’ and Women’s programme, and this is a fantastic step in that journey.

“The FA Professional Game Academy will give talented female players the opportunity to receive high-quality coaching which will allow them to aspire for progression into the first team.

“As a club, we’re pushing to be at the top level of Women’s football, and growing talent through this programme will play a big role in that aspiration.”
