Jan Bednarek emphasised the progression Southampton are making after a hard-earned point at Manchester United on Sunday.

Both sides had chances during the opening 30 minutes before United's Casemiro was sent off following a VAR review for a high-foot.

After the sending off Saints came inches away from claiming all three points; Kyle Walker-Peters and James Ward-Prowse both denied by the woodwork during the second half.

For Bednarek, the performance epitomised the progression the side is making in recent weeks.

'We’re really confident in our manager," said the centre-back, "we really trust each other at the moment, if we do what our manager says we can win games, get clean sheets, we can give joy to our fans.

"I think we’ll take the point. It was a tough game, strange game. It’s hard to describe because after the red card we’re one man up, we couldn’t control the game, we couldn’t be patient, we couldn’t be aggressive.

"At half-time we spoke to each other and to the manager, he gave us good tips and in the second half we controlled the game and had chances.

"They had some counter attacks, a few from [chances] from set-pieces. Let’s take a point, let’s take a clean sheet and build on that.

"We have another game on Wednesday and we have to recover and build from this sheet. The only bit we have to sort is to be a little bit more clinical in the opposition box."
