Charlton Athletic’s The Valley plays host to Southampton FC Women in the Barclays Women’s Championship on Sunday as the side return to action after a two week hiatus.

Fifth placed Addicks were in Vitality Women’s FA Cup action last weekend against Birmingham City, falling to a 1-0 loss, while their last league outing also ended with the same scoreline against strugglers Sheffield United.

Despite the break for Saints, their last outing was a fruitful one, as they came away from Sunderland with all three points, courtesy of a late substitute goal from Katie Wilkinson.

Having only lost twice in the whole league season so far, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side will be eager to not see a repeat of their opening day defeat at St Mary’s where the Addicks came away with a 2-0 win.

Saints will hope to make waves once again in the teal away strip.

It was a baptism of fire as Saints took on Charlton in the opening game of the Women’s Championship season at St Mary’s; A tough penalty decision in the first half and an early goal in the second proving too much for the newcomers to overcome.

“The girls are looking forward to getting back to league action and Sunday is an opportunity to show how far they’ve come already as a team in this league.”

“It’ll be another occasion to play at The Valley, and we know that the travelling support will be fantastic as always.

“But we have to focus on our game and keep the levels high. We’ve got a big few months coming up and every single point is important.”

Emily Simpkins is a threat for the Addicks in attack. She is their current top goalscorer, and sits second in the assists chart for the home side.

Tickets are still available to purchase directly from Charlton Athletic’s online ticketing platform, with prices between £5 and £10.

Charlton have also provided a comprehensive fan guide for those attending The Valley.
