David Bull remembers fellow historian Norman Gannaway, who has passed away, aged 92.
During his 42 years of working for the Hampshire County Library service and throughout his retirement, Norman Gannaway, who has died aged 92, was the stand-out writer on the history of football, and lots of cricket, across the county and into Dorset – not to mention a biography of William Pickford,
the “father of football in Hampshire”.
A long-time Saints fan and founder-member of the Hagiology Publishing collective, he contributed several pieces on the club’s history, volunteering, with the humility he personified, to write, in
, about the lowest league attendance at The Dell, in 1936, of 1,875.
