Salisu nets first Black Stars goal

Mohammed Salisu netted his first goal for native Ghana on Thursday as the Black Stars ended their preparation for the World Cup with a positive victory.

Taking on an experienced Switzerland side in their final friendly before the big tournament, the Saints defender headed home the opener after 69 minutes at the ZSC Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Bristol City's Antoine Semenyo then made sure of the victory on Thursday afternoon just five minutes later.

Salisu and Ghana start their World Cup campaign on Thursday with a tough test against Portugal in Group H.

On Wednesday another of Saints World Cup representatives, Armel Bella-Kotchap, played 61 minutes and kept a clean sheet as Germany beat Oman 1-0 in their final friendly before the tournament.

The Saints defender came off the bench on 34 minutes as Werder Bremen's Niclas Füllkrug netted the only goal with ten minutes to play.

Germany start their World Cup in Group E with a clash against Japan on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Stuart Armstrong played 67 minutes of Scotland's 2-1 friendly defeat in Turkey on Wednesday night. John McGinn with the consolation.

24 hours later Joe Aribo played 69 minutes against a talented Portugal side, who came away with a 4-0 victory thanks in part to a Bruno Fernandes double.

Meanwhile, Moi Elyounoussi and Gavin Bazunu faced off in Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.

Napoli’s Leo Skiri Østigård opening the scoring for Norway on 40 minutes before Alan Browne levelled for the hosts with just over 20 minutes to go.

But Norwegian substitute Ohi Omoijuanfo finished from close range on 85 minutes to secure victory in the friendly, with both Bazunu and Elyounoussi playing the duration.
