Southampton FC Women’s Marieanne Spacey-Cale has scooped the Barclays Women’s Championship Manager of the Month for October 2022 awarded by the LMA Panel.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side climbed to third in the table by the end of October, beating Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Sunderland all 1-0 in hard-fought performances.
On receiving the award, Spacey-Cale said:
“Firstly, I want to say a big thank you to the LMA. It’s always a proud honour to win any award, especially in this division, but this is more than just an individual award – we’ve got such a fantastic squad of staff who work endlessly all week to get us in the best position possible heading into each matchday.
“There are so many departments here at the club who help us on a daily basis, and without them we wouldn’t be able to operate as a squad.
“The players have adapted to this league really well so far and obviously we’re enjoying the start that we’ve had, but we all know as a squad we are learning every game and session what it takes to play in this challenging league. So we will enjoy our achievement to date, but also know there is still work to do.
“And of course a massive thank you as always to our supporters who follow us home and away. Having our home games at St Mary’s has been a real highlight of the season so far, and the support both there and at each away game has been incredible.”
Chair of the League Managers Association panel Faye White MBE added: "Marieanne's team has adapted to the Barclay's Women's Championship very quickly and confidence is clearly high amongst the players and staff.
"The nature of the three wins shows a resilient team, defensively organised and able to take their chances when it counts. Marieanne has done a fantastic job of preparing this group of players for full-time football and will have realistic ambitions of challenging at the top of the league for the rest of the season."
