Ralph Hasenhüttl labelled his side’s performance as “perfect” following Southampton’s 1-0 win at Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Ché Adams’s goal in the opening exchanges proved to be the difference at Vitality Stadium, as Saints ended a run of a five games without a win.

Leaving Dorset with an important three points, the boss reflected on a pleasing team performance.

“A very important [win] for us all,” he began. “We all enjoyed this evening; the fans, the staff, the players, it was a special game for us and a special performance I must say.

“We absolutely deserved to win today. From a team that from the first moment was showing we can do better and this was important to see.

“All the things we asked for from the players today they delivered in a perfect way - everybody in the starting 11 and the guys coming on the pitch - and this is how it should be every game, but it’s not that easy."

On top of the morale boosting victory, Gavin Bazunu claimed a maiden Premier League clean sheet, drawing praise for his patience from Hasenhüttl.

“It’s important for everybody; for the players and for Gavin. His first [clean sheet] in the Premier League and he had to wait a long time, but sometimes you have to wait in your life to come into the right water.”

The Austrian was also delighted to share the win over the Cherries with Saints’ sold-out travelling contingent, ahead of Sunday’s return to St Mary’s against league leaders Arsenal.

“In the right moments, they lifted us and supported us. It’s even more nice to celebrate together after such a game.

“Now, good recovery is important as it was an intense last three days. We have to do the right things to bring the guys back fit on the pitch on Sunday for a tough game."
