Saints make a return to last season’s fortress AFC Totton in their first home match since the season opener in August.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side come into Monday night’s game off the back of a Continental Cup defeat to bottom of the league Coventry United, in which two quickfire goals in the second half made Saints rue their missed opportunities.

In contrast, Birmingham City picked up a big win in their Conti Cup group, beating Women’s Super League side Brighton 3-2 at home.

Sitting just one place and two points above Saints in the league, Birmingham City will be hoping to push for the win to cement their place in the top half of the table, while Saints will be looking to bounce back from a tough defeat.

For just the second time this season, Saints will be in the iconic red and white home kit.

Saints faced Birmingham City away from home in the Vitality FA Cup during the 2020/21 season, pushing the then WSL side to the final whistle.

Two first half goals for the home side courtesy of Mollie Green and Emily Murphy, followed by a third in the second half from Sarah Myling put Birmingham in the driving seat, but a late fight back almost saw Saints do the unthinkable as Caitlin Morris and Ella Pusey hit the back of the net in the 84th and 87th minute.

“Birmingham are undoubtedly one of the strongest teams in the division.

“This is their first season in the Championship following their relegation from the Women’s Super League, where they thrived for much of their eight-year tenure. That alone speaks to the quality they possess.

“It’s imperative that we start with intent and use the frustration from our last game to fuel that.”

There are a limited number of tickets still available for the fixture, with AFC Totton set to be buzzing on Monday night. Tickets must be purchased in advance, with Adults priced at £8 and Under-18s at £2.
