With Southampton not getting the result their performance at Wolves deserved, defender Mohammed Salisu highlighted the need for Saints to take their chances.

Having collected seven points from losing positions already this season, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side were unable to repeat the feat at Molineux, as Daniel Podence’s first half strike proved to be the difference.

Dominating large periods of the game, Ché Adams came closest to equalising with a disallowed goal, having handled in the process, and a header which came back off the crossbar.

Reflecting on a game of fine margins, Salisu said: “We are a little bit disappointed we didn’t end up with the points.

“I think the team did a great job, but in the end we don’t have the points so it’s a little bit disappointing.

“We had good chances in the game and we have to take our chances, because when you don’t take your chances the opponent will punish you, which they have now.

“Last season we lost here thinking we should have points here but in the end, again we don’t have the points.

“Now we need to focus on the next game. Team spirit is very high and the boys are really working hard.”
