Moussa Djenepo felt Southampton gave their all against Manchester United, with Bruno Fernandes’s goal the only difference in the Premier League meeting at St Mary's.

Goalless at the interval, United’s captain opened the scoring 10 minutes after the restart, before Saints rallied and pressed for an equaliser.

Unable to breach David de Gea’s goal, Djenepo was left to reflect on an encouraging performance despite the result.

“We lost this game, but we gave everything,” the Malian said. “We were compact in the game, but this is football. We have to keep going with hard work to find a solution to be focused on the next game.

“We played good. We want to be there with a lot of communication, that’s why we are always here to help each other and to keep going.

“It’s football sometimes. The most important thing is to keep going and prepare game-by-game and to stay all together, to never give up and to keep going.”

Featuring once again at left-back for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side, Djenepo is prioritising the team over personal positioning.

“If I have to defend for the team, I will defend for the team. The most important thing is to do well and be focused and to always give my best for the team.”
