Teenage defender Thierry Small has joined League One’s Port Vale on a season-long loan.

The left-back has been part of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s first team squad in pre-season, featuring in the friendlies against RB Leipzig and SK Austria Klagenfurt.

Still 17, Small arrived at Southampton from Everton last summer, signing a three-year contract in August 2021.

Making his senior Saints debut against Coventry in the FA Cup in February, the starlet will now gain senior football experience with the Valiants, who won promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2021/22.

The club wishes Thierry all the best during his time at Vale Park and looks forward to monitoring his progress this season.
