Moussa Djenepo is enjoying having to adapt to a new position, having featured at left-wing back for Southampton so far in pre-season.

The 24-year-old, whose primary position is as a winger, played a third successive game for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side in a more defensive role in the 0-0 draw with Watford on Saturday.

Commenting on the positional change, he said: “I enjoy it because I have to do my best for the team, and I try every game to do my best and to work hard.

“I have to be ready defensively. That is my job and I have to work on that.

“It was good for us [the game against Watford]. We tried to be focused on what we have worked on and we’re trying to be ready for the start of the league.”

Now heading into back-to-back home friendlies against AS Monaco and Villarreal CF, Djenepo is looking forward to a St Mary’s return.

“I can’t wait to come back to St Mary’s with the fans and they will be good games. We work and focus with good mentality to play the games.”
