Southampton’s Scottish duo Ché Adams and Stuart Armstrong face an emotional meeting with Ukraine tonight as both countries target a place at the Qatar World Cup.

The one-legged play-off semi-final at Hampden Park (7.45pm BST) was due to take place in March, but Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led to the fixture being postponed.

Since then, the draw has been made for the final tournament which begins in November, with the winner of the play-off path set to join Group B alongside England, Iran and USA.

Scotland are two games away from reaching their first World Cup since 1998, while Ukraine have qualified only once, when they reached the quarter-finals back in 2006.

Tonight’s victors, after extra time and penalties if necessary, will face Wales in Sunday’s play-off final at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Dragons are preparing for the final with a trip to Poland this evening (5pm BST) in the first round of Nations League matches, with most European countries set to play four games in the competition this month.

Saints defender Jan Bednarek is in the Polish squad, along with fellow Premier League players Matty Cash and Mateusz Klich, and star striker Robert Lewandowski.
