Women’s team scoop WNL awards

Southampton FC Women kept their winning run going on Saturday as they collected a number of awards at the FA Women’s National League Awards.

Following a successful 2021/22 season which saw Saints win the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier, the FA National League Cup and secure promotion to the FA Women’s Championship, the side scooped a number of awards to recognise their achievements at the inaugural awards dinner on Saturday night.

Saints won Club of the Year for Tier 3, which recognises exceptional work done both on and off the pitch; The success of the team, the organisation of the club, as well as the support which Saints have given to community programmes, all key in the judging.

Marieanne Spacey-Cale also picked up the Southern Premier Division Manager of the Year award, as she steered Saints to 22 wins out of 26 games, losing only one game during the league campaign.

Michelle Yeowell picked up the Manager of the Year award for her stewardship of the Reserve side, who had an unbeaten season, winning 13 of their 14 games. While one of her players, Sky Bedwell, was awarded the Players’ Player of the Year Award for the Reserve Division.

There were also a number of individual award winners from the side, with Ella Pusey winning the Southern Premier Division Top Goalscorer award, scoring 24 goals during the league campaign.

Kaylee Buckingham also topped the goalscoring table in the Reserve South West Division, with Grace Jenman collecting the goalkeeping award for her performances at the other end of the pitch.
