It’s been an emphatic week for the hosts, who have completed the double by winning both the FA Women’s Premier Leauge Southern Division as well as the FA Women’s National League Cup.

League victory over bitter rivals Portsmouth in midweek was then followed with an impressive 3-0 victory over Huddersfield in the cup on Sunday.

Alisha Ware opened the scoring for saints, before a Lucia Kendall brace secured the title of champions for the second time in the space of just a matter of days.

The visitors claimed a huge victory over second place Ipswich Town on Sunday, looking to end their 2021/22 campaign on a high.

LAST MEETING

The spoils were shared when Saints travelled to Oxford for the reverse fixture back in March, with neither side able to find a second half breakthrough to claim all three points.

Alisha Ware gave Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side the advantage after just seven minutes in Oxford, executing the perfect finish to Lucia Kendall’s square ball.

The forward’s effort was soon cancelled out by Carly Johns shortly before half time to get the hosts back on level terms with the score line remaining the same until the final whistle.

MANAGER'S NOTES

“Oxford are a good side,” confessed boss Marieanne Spacey-Cale. “They will play for second place I guess and that’s a huge result for them [against Ipswich].

“We haven’t finished the league; we’ve won the league but we’ve got to go into Wednesday like we have done all season. I know it’s a cliché but, we have to prepare as we have done.

We want to finish the season on a high and we’re not just preparing for two more league games, we’ve got a big play-off game to come as well so I know training is going to be competitive, I know players are going to be playing for a shirt on Wednesday, a shirt on Sunday and then a shirt for the play-off game.

“As it stands at the minute we’ll focus on Oxford, good opposition and a team that we drew with when we played at their place. We’ve got to be ready for a tough battle and a tough game.”
