Ralph Hasenhüttl is looking for a reaction from his players as Southampton prepare for Sunday’s trip to Brighton in the Premier League.

The manager admitted his side was well below par in Thursday’s defeat at Burnley, and Saints now face a quick turnaround with a second away game in less than 72 hours.

Saints (13th) can leapfrog the Seagulls (10th) with victory ahead of meetings with Crystal Palace (14th) and Brentford (12th) over the next fortnight that Hasenhüttl says will go a long way to deciding their status within the mid-table mini league.

“Until the first goal we had not such a bad start, but our game with the ball was far away from what we wanted to do,” he said of the loss at Turf Moor. “We have to look at why those things happened.

“We have to play different – better, for sure, otherwise we have no chance there (at Brighton).

“We don’t have a lot of time, but we have the chance to show a reaction.

“We now have [to play against] all of the teams around us. If you are stronger than them, you deserve to be there. If not, it’s very simple.”
