It was certainly a super Sunday for Saints last-time-out in National League Southern Premier, seeing off promotion rivals Ipswich Town away from home.

The hosts took the lead on 36 minutes, Paige Peake scoring from the spot as Ipswich profited from their strong start.

But Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side bounced back in the second half; Lucia Kendall continuing her goalscoring form with a fine volley on 51 minutes before Ella Pusey’s delightful chip turned the game on its head four minutes later.

Hounslow suffered a heavy defeat at home last-time-out, falling to a 7-1 defeat to Chichester despite Kayla Potter grabbing a goal back on 21 minutes.

Three points for Saints could see them rise above Ipswich into top spot if other results go their way, whilst Hounslow will be looking for their first points of the season on Sunday.

The two sides last met at Hanworth Villa at the start of September last year, with Saints coming away with a comprehensive victory.

Pusey grabbed two and Ciara Watling netted a hat-trick to set the visitors on their way to a 9-0 victory on the road, their second victory of such a score line in successive weeks.

Further goals followed through Leeta Rutherford, Sophia Pharoah, Georgie Freeland and Shelly Provan on a dominant afternoon on the road.

“Sunday is the next part of the process,” said Spacey-Cale, “we just need to keep trusting the process and keep delivering in training.

“The squad are working hard together and it’s hard to leave players out, a great problem to have as a manager.

“The fans have been absolutely phenomenal for us. There’s still a long way to go and we know they’re a part of this journey for us. Keep coming, keep singing, keep sharing this with us.

“We’re doing it for them and we’re doing it as part of this club and trying to achieve what we want to achieve.”
