Dynel Simeu provided a vital assist in Carlisle United’s 2-1 victory over Barrow. This and more in this week’s Loan Watch …

Paul Simpson’s impressive run since being appointed manager at Carlisle United came to an end in midweek as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to sixth place Newport County.

United soon bounced back, though, resisting a late Barrow comeback to secure all three points on the road with a 2-1 victory.

Saints loanee Simeu played a pivotal role in the win, providing the assist for Kristian Dennis’ opener. It was a lovely ball forward from the defender, with Dennis clipping it into the back of the net to give the visitors the advantage.

United now sit 17th in the league standings and nine points clear of the drop.

Elsewhere in League Two, Will Ferry was brought on in the second half to make a difference in midweek as Crawley Town were left trailing Exeter City before the break.

A return to the starting line-up followed for Ferry, who then played the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s 3-1 home victory over seventh place Swindon Town.

Finally, in non-league, Jack Bycroft retained his place in the starting XI for Dorchester Town as they came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Kings Langley.
