Armando Broja reflected on an ‘amazing’ night at St Mary’s as Southampton claimed a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League.

Broja netted Saints’ third goal of the evening shortly after the break to extend the hosts lead in front of an energised St Mary’s crowd.

“It was an amazing night,” admitted the 20-year-old. “I’m so thankful to all the fans at Southampton and for the reception that they gave me and the team today.

“It was just amazing. What a way to start the new year with a Premier League win. It’s just amazing that we can go up positions in the table and we need to carry on like this. It was an amazing performance.

“It was a great start from us. Great ball from Prowsey, we know his deliveries are amazing and then a great header.

“Even though they did get the equaliser we kept on pushing and you can see that in the great strike from Ibra of course, that helped ease things a bit. Then my goal of course was a great pass from Ori, it was amazing.

“3-1 just gives you a bit more of a comfortable lead and you start to relax a lot more. I’m happy for Ché to come back from Covid, a striker need goals and I’m really happy for him that he was able to score today. It was just a great outing I think for the whole of St Mary’s."

“I think we came out very strong, they also came out quite strong, they were trying to move forward. I saw Ori get the ball and I knew it was a great counter-attack opportunity, it was a great pass from him.

“To get that third goal, it just eases the situation off a little bit. We were just keeping control of the ball and I just think it was an amazing performance.

“I’m loving my football so far here at St Mary’s, it’s going really well at Southampton. I’m just buzzing. The boys are helping me out every day, the gaffer, the players, everyone. It’s just a really amazing moment for me and my family and I’m just really thankful for this opportunity.

“Obviously it’s good to set myself targets but I’m just trying to focus on myself and the team and trying to do as good as possible. I’m not going to get too carried away but I’m just going to keep going."

“We’re going to keep pushing and try and get as high up the table as possible.”

While there’s a lot of talk surrounding Saints, Broja made it clear that Saints’ focus remains the same.

“I think we’re just focusing more on the game really, we weren’t really focusing too much on what was happening outside of the club.

“We’re focusing on what’s in front of us and the game here today. It’s an amazing result to beat Brentford 4-1 so we’re focusing on ourselves as a team and we were just trying to get the win today."
