Following a week of derby day successes that saw Saints claim victories over Portsmouth in both the Women’s FA Cup and league, confidence will be high going into Sunday’s showdown.

Moving up to second in the table courtesy of Wednesday’s 1-0 win at Fratton Park, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side will be keen to keep the pressure on leaders Ipswich, who sit six points ahead with an extra game played.

Returning to Snows Stadium this weekend, visitors Cardiff will be looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats that have seen them fall to 10th in the table.

Also exiting the FA Cup after a shock defeat to Exeter City, Cardiff will be looking to finish 2021 on a high and halt what’s been a positive week for Saints.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Sunday will be the first time the two sides have met since the Women’s FA Cup third round clash in January 2020.

Saints were forced to come from a goal down, and netted either side of the interval, to record their best-ever FA Cup showing at the time.

After Jasmine Turner gave Cardiff an early lead, Ella Pusey levelled things up before the break, before Kirsty Whitton struck the winner early in the second period to secure a spot in the fourth round.

MANAGER'S NOTES

“Every game we play in the league is like a cup final for us now because we’re chasing Ipswich who are probably red hot favourites now for the title.

“We’ve got to make sure that we stay true to what we want to do and keep building towards the aspiration that we’ve got.

"We’ve got the squad so we can look at how players have done and how they’ve responded, we’ve got other players waiting just absolutely chomping at the bit to come in so we’ve got to utilise the depth of the squad.

"It has been a tough four games in the last 10-12 days, so I know the girls will recover well, look after themselves in the coming days and we’ll make sure we’re prepared for Cardiff on Sunday and hope the fans come again."
