Southampton FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Wales international Alice Griffiths from National League Southern Premier side Bridgwater United.

Griffiths becomes the fifth addition to the squad this season, adding yet more Championship experience to Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side.

The 20-year-old started her career at Cyncoed Ladies, before moving onto Cardiff Met where she won the domestic treble of league, FAW Women’s Cup and Welsh Premier Women’s Cup during the 2018-19 season.

Prior to signing for fellow Southern Premier side Bridgwater this summer, the 20-year-old featured 26 times for Charlton Athletic after signing for the Championship side in July 2019.

Griffiths has represented Wales at a senior level since 2017, making six caps to date after notching her debut aged just 18 against Kazakhstan in 2019 World Cup qualifying.

Speaking on the move she said: “I’m really happy to be here. It’s been quite a quick turnaround but I can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve had a look around the club and when I saw what they had to offer with the staff and the facilities, the players, I knew it was the club I wanted to join.

“I’m a defensive midfielder who likes to break up play. I like to play direct passes forward and get the team on the front foot.

“Right now I’m looking to settle in at Southampton, build with this club and keep developing myself as a player."

On her latest acquisition, manager Spacey-Cale said: “Alice is a player we’ve looked at for a little while now. She’s a really exciting talent.

“She seems more mature than her age on the pitch. She’s come in, got involved and fitted in really nicely within the squad.

For such a young player she’s so experienced. As we grow we want players to grow with us and with Alice you can see her future being with us and being part of something special.”
