It’s been a further four days since Saints took a step in the right direction last-time-out in Premier League 2, claiming a hard-fought and deserved point at home to Stoke City.

The Potters took the lead early into the first half, before Saints went on to dominate the game and get back on level terms through Kazeem Olaigbe’s penalty.

Wolves were also in action on that Friday, facing off against high flying Aston Villa at Bodymoor Heath training ground.

With the two sides playing out a 0-0, Wolves remained in fifth with 11 points from seven games.

A win for Monday’s hosts would see them rise to as high as third, whilst three points for Saints could put them a point behind Sunderland.

LAST MEETING

Saints and Wolves last met during the 2019/20 season, when both sides were battling for survival in Premier League 2 Division One before the competition was curtailed in March.

That last meeting came at Staplewood Campus in early February, where Dare Olufunwa’s late header five minutes from time secured an important three points.

The result secured a league double for Saints over their Midlands’ opponents following Christian Norton and Aaron O’Driscoll’s goals in a 2-1 win at AFC Telford in September 2019.

It also meant Dave Horseman side went above Wolves in the standings, meaning the latter were relegated at the end of the season to Division 2.

MANAGER’S NOTES

“It will be a really good game,” said Dave on Monday’s test. “They’re a really good football team. They had [Fabio] Silva play recently who I think cost £35 million from Porto.

“If we perform how we did in the second half against Charlton we can beat anybody but if we perform how we play in the first half of that game then we’re there for the taking.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to, we should have a few back from injury. Hopefully Will Smallbone will be with us again but he may be with the first team.

“But we’re definitely growing as a team and there are some really good individuals there.”
