THE MATCH

Birmingham vs Saints
Premier League 2, Division 2
Wast Hills Training Ground
Monday 27th September, 1.30pm BST

Dave Horseman side will be looking to put things right following heavy defeat last-time-out at home to West Brom in the Premier League Cup.

It's been eight days since their last PL2 outing, which came in front of just under 700 Saints fans at St Mary's Stadium.

Thierry Small made his debut for the club, but visitors Burnley came away with a 2-0 win with goals either side of the break.

Monday's hosts, who sit just above Saints in second bottom with two further points, also suffered defeat in their last fixture.

High-flying Nottingham Forest blew the visiting blues away with a 5-0 victory at Meadow Lane.

MANAGER'S NOTES

"They [Birmingham] have fielded some young teams like us," said Horseman on Monday's game. "But with the game at their training ground at 1.30pm on a Monday I'd expect some first team players again.

"This is a learning experience, a hard one at the moment. But you create diamonds by putting pressure on things. They're under pressure at the moment but actually they're a couple I have to mention, and I don't normally do this, Kami Doyle, Dom Ballard, Kegs [Chauke].

"I think they look like potential players and there's a lot more there too. We have players who are getting better. Nobody would be able to tell me where James Ward-Prowse's [Academy] team finished in the league, but he plays every week in the Premier League is an outstanding player.

"We will put it right because we have to win games. We're a really good Academy, a really good club. But some of these players are definitely improving."
