It was the perfect start of Saints last weekend, coming away from their opening National League Southern Premier game with a 3-1 win.

MK Dons could do nothing to stop the late first half double from youngster Lucia Kendall at Snows Stadium, before Ella Pusey added a decisive third 20 minutes from time.

It was a less successful start to the new season for Plymouth, who suffered a 5-1 defeat at Portsmouth on opening day.

Despite the score line the match was a tight affair up until the 71st minute, when four goals from Cherelle Khassel put the result beyond any doubt.

LAST MEETING

It’s only been four months since these two sides last met via the Vitality Women’s FA Cup back in April.

In the second round of the competition, and their first game for 15 weeks, Saints opened the scoring in the 34th minute through Kendall before Rachel Panting added second on the stroke of half-time.

The result was sealed in the 77th minute as Rosie Parnell notched a rare goal which saw Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side progress.

Saints would go on to face Yeovil United in the next round, also winning that match-up 3-0.

MANAGER’S NOTES

“We have to approach every game as new territory," said Spacey-Cale. “We played Plymouth in the cup last season but this is now the league where it’s about consistency and that completive, challenging element we’ve been relishing.

“With Plymouth it’s another game where we now understand more of what the league feels like after game one, now we have to put that into action on Sunday.

“The FA Cup was last season, this is now about points and about us building into the season. Looking forward to these challenging and competitive games, being ready each game and each week

“We’ve got such depth in the squad and with such a long season we have to ensure the players in our squad are ready for every game. There’s an opportunity for players to compete in training for a start, but it’s such a long season that the squad will be utilised throughout.”
