After a successful pre-season, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side are back in action this weekend as they make the step up to the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier.

Saints kicked off pre-season in style with an emphatic 18-1 victory over local rivals Southampton Women’s Reserves at Snows Stadium.

They then went on to claim another victory over Lewes FC before drawing 2-2 with London City Lionesses to conclude pre-season.

Marianne Spacey-Cale has made a number of important signings ahead of Saints’ new challenge, with Laura Rafferty, Leeta Rutherford and Ciara Watling all adding a wealth of experience to the side.

Saints last faced Sunday’s opponents in the second round of the FA Women’s Cup back in December 2019.

The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Saints coming out victors after triumphing 3-2 on penalties.

“We’re aware of what we’re going into in terms of the Southern Premier and the teams we’re going to be up against," said Marieanne Spacey-Cale.

“We wanted to challenge them and see what they can do and see how far they can push themselves and each other.

“It’s been a long time coming playing competitive football again, especially competitive league football. I think there is a real excitement about getting started.

“There’s also an anticipation of what we’re going in to, and an excitement. Every game is going to be a challenge."
