Ralph Hasenhüttl admitted his side need to find a solution after Southampton once again surrendered a lead, falling to a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham on Wednesday night in the Premier League.

Making five changes from Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup semi-final defeat, the visitors began brightly in the capital and held a deserved lead at the break courtesy of Danny Ings’s strike.

However, losing the striker to injury before the hour-mark saw momentum swing in favour of Spurs, who equalised just minutes later through Gareth Bale before Son Heung-min struck a 90th minute penalty to condemn Saints to defeat.

Commenting after, Hasenhüttl said: “We must analyse this game again, but we have to find a solution for our defending deep, because it is not working well.

“It’s unbelievable how many chances we had today, and this is in the end with the result not really showing what the game was about.

“In the end it’s about who is more clinical and who is not so stupid and making such penalties as we do.

“It’s not a good time to speak about how pleased I am [with aspects of the performance] because at the moment I am only disappointed and that’s it.

“We have to stand up again and be fighting for it but it’s hard to take.”
