Saints mark Autism Awareness Day
At Southampton Football Club, we’re committed to creating an environment for people on the autism spectrum to enjoy football.
Today marks World Autism Awareness Day which is about increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism, the impact it has on the individual and to consider how we are able to adapt support needs where possible.
To help achieve this, the club has offered a free training session to all its staff, through Autism Hampshire, to further understanding of how to best support individuals with autism.
In 2017, the club introduced a Sensory Room to provide a calming environment for fans of all ages with sensory differences, who can find the atmosphere inside a football stadium challenging. Our Supporter Services team is also on hand to work with supporters on a one-to-one basis – this can be as simple as allowing them to visit the stadium prior to booking tickets to get a sense of the scale and what it might be like, to registering them on our disability access scheme ensuring they have access to assistance and facilities if required.
