Jan Bednarek believes Southampton have to ‘dig deep’ to turn their fortunes around after suffering a 1-0 defeat at Everton in the Premier League.

In a game of few chances, Richarlison’s strike inside the opening 10 minutes proved to be the difference, as a late Saints rally couldn’t salvage a point.

Falling to back-to-back defeats, Bednarek called for courage in the aftermath of the match at Goodison Park.

“We’re disappointed,” he said. “We worked hard and did the best we could today, but it wasn’t enough.

“We need to stick together as a team and that’s it. We have to dig deep and fight for ourselves.

“It’s time to step up and show our courage and our togetherness. It’s not easy, but we have to do it.

“I think it’s not good enough. One chance and they score one goal. We need that game of ours back.

“We have to work hard and stick together as a team, but it’s very easy to argue at the moment as it’s not going the way we want it to go, but this is life and these times will get better.”
