Ings provides welcome return

Danny Ings’s return following his isolation period will provide a welcome boost to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side, who continue to suffer with injuries ahead of the visit of Arsenal to St Mary’s in the Emirates FA Cup.

Ings, who returned a positive Covid-19 test following the Premier League victory over Liverpool at the beginning of the month, is in line to feature for the first time since that win at St Mary’s.

It goes some way to reducing the injury list, which continues to feature the likes of Moussa Djenepo, Nathan Redmond, Jannik Vestergaard, Will Smallbone and youngsters Michael Obafemi and Nathan Tella.

“He is important for our game,” said the boss on Ings. “We will try to put him in a position where he can score again and help us.

"It's important after the injury he had and the Covid that he had [that he is back]. He gives us more options and opportunities up front in the attacking positions.

“Out of the match we still have a lot of players. We'll take it as serious as possible. At the weekend we have the chance for five subs which is definitely good.

"On Tuesday I rested a few players, giving a few more opportunities for the weekend so the team will look a little bit different."
