Charles wins Goal of the Month prize
Shea Charles’ spectacular long-range strike against Oxford has won the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for March.
The Northern Ireland international ran on to Cameron Archer’s cutback following a short corner and hit the ball first time with his right foot, connecting sweetly to send a curling shot soaring into the top corner from 35 yards.
Charles was also nominated for February’s Goal of the Month prize following his dramatic late winner at Leicester, but this time has gone one better and won the award, adding to Tonda Eckert’s second successive Manager of the Month trophy.
The Saints midfielder pipped special strikes from Liam Cullen (Swansea), Nestory Irankunda (Watford) and Luke Cundle (Millwall), as votes from EFL fans were combined with the choices of a panel to determine the winner.
Charles said: “The set-piece routine didn’t quite go exactly to plan, but when the ball came out to me, I just thought, 'why not shoot?' I knew I got a good connection on the shot so I was delighted when I saw it hit the back of the net, especially as it meant we went 2-0 up early on and gave us control of the game.”
Saints' next home match sees us take on Bristol City at St Mary's on Tuesday 21st April (7.45pm BST). Tickets are on general sale now, starting from £25 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.
