Southampton FC Women are delighted to announce the addition of exciting young forward Emma Thompson from Chelsea FC Women.

The 19-year-old joined the Chelsea FC Academy in 2016, and made her way through the ranks.

She was a prolific goalscorer for the academy side, scoring 17 goals in 15 games in all competitions during the 2021/22 season, subsequently being awarded her senior debut.

Thompson went on to make a number of appearances for the senior side, including an FA Cup match against Aston Villa in which Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners.

Signing a senior contract with the Blues at the start of the 2022/23 season, Thompson joined fellow Barclays Women’s Championship side Lewes on loan to gain first team experience, coming up against Saints in both the home and away fixtures.

The forward has also represented the Young Lionesses, making appearances for the Under-15, Under-16, Under-18 and Under-19s squads.

On stepping into the Saints squad, Thompson commented:

“From my first few days being in, I knew it's the place I wanted to be.

"I had such a warm welcome from all the players, all the staff, and that was a real positive for me.

"The ambitions and the goals of the club really align with what I want to achieve as a player, so that in itself says a lot."

Adding another exciting option to her attacking arsenal, Spacey-Cale remarked:

“Emma is a young player who has a natural goal scoring talent.

“She’s mature beyond her years yet still with lots of potential, and we’re looking forward to her unlocking that with us."
