Barclays Women’s Championship

St Mary’s Stadium

The unforgiving league and cup schedule continues as Saints welcome Charlton Athletic to St Mary’s Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

The Addicks sit just behind Saints in the table on goal difference, with both sides having picked up 18 points so far this season from nine games.

Saints come into the tie off the back of their first ever Continental Cup victory, as a much changed side beat Reading 1-0 at Aldershot Town FC; substitute Lexi Lloyd-Smith scoring the late winner.

Charlton have had a longer break ahead of Sunday’s clash. Their last game saw them take on Lewes in a Friday night fixture at the Dripping Pan which saw a red card for both sides, and a late penalty dispatched by Kayleigh Green to seal all three points for the visitors.

With Saints unable to get a result against the Addicks last season, it’s bound to be a tightly-contested clash at St Mary’s, with a vocal home crowd once again.

MANAGER’S NOTES

“It’s a busy November but despite that we’re looking forward to getting straight back to St Mary’s in what looks set to be an extremely competitive fixture.

“I was really pleased by our performance in the Conti Cup on Wednesday and it showcased the depth of this squad - everyone challenges each other on the training pitch, and that was reflected in the performance.

“Charlton will be a different challenge. They sit behind us on goal difference, and it’ll be important for us to start quickly and keep our levels high, whoever is in that starting-eleven in order to get a result.

“Our fans will also play a part, as they have done all season and we hope to see more than ever there for another important league fixture.”
