Southampton FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Jamaica international Atlanta Primus from London City Lionesses.

The 26-year-old forward joins Southampton FC on her return from the FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she helped Jamaica secure their first ever point in the competition.

Primus represented Chelsea FC before heading to California State University, Fullerton in the United States in 2016, where she made 72 appearances, scored 25 goals and became the all-time programme assist leader, MVP and team captain over four seasons.

Returning to the UK, Primus joined fellow Barclays Women’s Championship London City Lionesses in September 2020, going on to make 58 appearances for the side and netting 15 goals.

Before switching her national team allegiance, Primus also represented England in their youth pathway, making appearances at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level.

Her first call-up for Jamaica saw her impress in a friendly against Costa Rica, with her performances in the domestic league and in a Reggae Girls shirt earning her a place in their recent World Cup squad.

On making her move to the south coast official, Primus commented:

“I’m super excited to be here!

“I’m ready to get going and excited for the season to start.

“From the staff to the players, I think there’s something special here and I wanted to be a part of that.”

Bolstering her side with international experience, Spacey-Cale remarked:

“I’m delighted to get Atlanta into our squad. She brings a strong attacking threat along with a clever football mind.

“Fresh from the World Cup those experiences have added to her development into a top player.”
