Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Josh McNamara on a permanent transfer from Manchester City.

The 19-year-old joins the club on a two-year deal and will link up with Dave Horseman's Under-21s for the 2023/24 season.

The young shot-stopper began his career at Watford before spending five years at Manchester City, where he completed his scholarship and earned his first professional contract.

McNamara was a part of the Under-18s Premier League title winning side in the 2021/22 season, narrowly beating Saints in the national final at St Mary's Stadium.

After completing his switch to the South Coast, McNamara highlighted his key reasons for making the move.

"It feels great, I'm excited for a new opportunity," he explained. "It's a lovely ground, lovely people and I'm looking forward to it."

"Southampton have a great history of being a strong club, academy up to first team, and I think in terms of development it's a great environment to learn."

"I know some of the [academy] lads," he added, on the prospect of another exciting PL2 season. "They're doing really well so I'm excited to join the team and hopefully do well again this year."
