As part of Loneliness Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on its ongoing work to tackle social isolation, while inviting the wider community to our seventh annual ‘Maintaining Your’ Independence Day event.

Taking place on Wednesday 1st July at St Mary’s Stadium, the event will be delivered by our Health team and is designed to support older adults in living independently, safely and confidently.

By linking the event to Loneliness Awareness Week, we aim to highlight the challenges many older adults face around isolation, and provide a welcoming space where attendees can learn, engage and feel part of their community.

The ‘Maintaining Your’ Independence Day will offer practical advice on online safety, wellbeing and independent living, alongside the chance to connect with a range of local organisations and community support services, all working to help individuals remain active and engaged.

Saints Foundation Ambassador and former England footballer Marieanne Spacey-Cale will open the event and deliver a keynote speech, highlighting the importance of our work in this space.

Historically, the event has been attended by our older adult participants. However, in line with our continued commitment to tackling loneliness and improving accessibility, the event is now open to anyone who would like to attend and learn more.

By opening the event up more widely, we hope to reach more people who may benefit from support, information and social connection; key elements in reducing loneliness and promoting independence.
