Catch up on another busy week behind the scenes across all levels of Southampton Football Club with a wide range of stories from the past seven days…
Southampton ended an intense run of fixtures with a frustrating afternoon at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat that leaves them still glimpsing over their shoulder in the Premier League table.
Despite Ché Adams scoring his third goal in as many matches, efforts either side of that from Lewis Dunk and Leandro Trossard gave the visitors a big three points and meant a fifth home game in succession for Saints without a top-flight victory.
With nine matches left in their season, Hasenhüttl’s side still remain seven points clear of the relegation zone, but with the three teams between them and 18th place – Burnley, Newcastle and now Brighton – all picking up points this weekend, the degree of comfort is perhaps slightly less than it was before.
Southampton’s B team face Premier League 2 leaders Manchester City this afternoon at the City Football Academy.
It’s a second top-of-the-table test for Saints in as many weeks, having faced second placed Blackburn Rovers last time out.
City enjoyed a dominant afternoon themselves in their most recent fixture, thrashing West Ham 5-0 at home.
Southampton Football Club is pleased to announce that young goalkeeper Jack Bycroft has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.
The 19-year-old, who has already completed a decade with Saints, has further reinforced his commitment to the club by signing a deal that runs until the summer of 2024.
Bycroft joined his boyhood club at the pre-Academy phase in 2010 and has successfully moved his way through the Southampton ranks, most recently impressing at both Under-18 and B team level.
