Hasenhüttl on Lyanco's progress

Brazilian born Lyanco, who arrived on the shores of the south coast in late August, has been settling in well to his new surroundings in Southampton, the manager confirmed during a press briefing on Thursday morning.

The defender will need a little more time before being ready for his official introduction to Premier League competition, although Ralph Hasenhüttl reaffirmed his position on Lyanco's long-term value to the squad.

Arriving from Italian club Torino, the 24-year-old has some way to go with his new dialect, with Hasenhüttl currently employing the services of Oriol Romeu to mediate conversation, but praise was given to his willingness to learn quickly, and his playful character - which is already evident via his interaction with fans on social media.

"As always, for us, new signings are long-term projects," the boss commented. "This is what I told him.

"He needs to learn his English, but he's willing to learn in every area. A very good character and a very settled personality. Very happy to have him here.

"Ori, in the moment, is a little bit my translator. My Italian is not that good when I try to speak with him, especially in the football business there are some words I don't know.

"He will make definitely a lot of games for us and a good signing for the future."
