Ralph Hasenhüttl expects influential midfielder Roméo Lavia to miss at least six weeks of action with the hamstring injury that forced him off in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The 18-year-old, who had only scored his first goal in senior football half an hour earlier, hobbled off against the Blues and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Roméo is injured now but has shown he can be a massive part of our game,” Hasenhüttl said.

“He will be out for longer – how long we will see, but I expect minimum six weeks.”

Lavia was one of 10 summer recruits in a very active transfer window for Saints, with four of those new faces arriving on deadline day.

Only Duje Ćaleta-Car, Hasenhüttl revealed, is set to miss the weekend trip to Wolves, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Samuel Edozie and Juan Larios all available to play.

“11 out and 10 in is a massive change in the group, and this is how it feels in the moment,” the boss continued.

“Most of them are 90 per cent safe for the weekend – not 100 per cent because we still have to do the paperwork and work permit.

“I think only Duje is not on the level – it was a little bit too late, the transfer, but everyone else can be part of the squad.”
