B Team Report: Salisbury 1-2 Saints
Southampton's youngsters enjoyed another successful outing in pre-season on Tuesday night, beating Salisbury FC 2-1 away from home.
Saints held a commanding two goal lead just minutes into the second-half, Kazeem Olaigbe notching the first on 39 minutes before Trialist A got the second on 46.
Salisbury were given a glimmer of hope when Emmanuel Odubadge fired home the deflection after Jack Bycroft saved the initial penalty, but the visitors held out to make it two wins from two.
A strong Saints side which featured the likes of Caleb Watts, Kegs Chauke and Dynel Simeu on his non-competitive debut started the game brightly, Olaigbe winning the ball up field inside ten minutes but shooting just wide.
Then came a chance for the hosts, Simeu the saviour for Dave Horseman's side with a superb last ditch block to deny a certain goal on 13 minutes.
Benni Smales-Braithwaite and Olaigbe combined well on the left-hand side for most of the evening, the former's ball across the face of goal looking for Trialist A who couldn't connect.
Saints' pressure continued as the half hour mark approached, Olaigbe involved again being fouled on the edge of the box as Smales-Braitwatie shot just wide.
The goal finally came for Saints in the 39th minute from a likely scorer, Olaigbe slotting past the keeper and adding to his goal against AFC Totton a week ago.
It could have been two before the break for the visitors as Matt Carson and Sam Bellis both had shots well saved, but it remained just the one at the interval.
One minute is all it would take of the second half for Saints to double their lead, Trialist A storming through one-on-one and dinking the ball into the far corner.
Salisbury were handed a path back into the game just shy of the hour mark, Odubadge converting his rebound after Bycroft did superbly well to match his penalty kick.
But it was Saints who would have the better of the final half-an-hour; Jayden Smith and Kaya Tshaka going close as they looked to restore the two goal advantage.
