Archer: I had confidence I'd come on and score
Southampton's stoppage time hero, Cameron Archer, hailed the positivity around the squad as his last gasp goal earned a 2-1 win over Swansea in South Wales.
Saints extended their impressive unbeaten run to 19 games, but they were made to work for it after trailing at the break as the hosts' Marko Stamenić opened the scoring.
A rousing response from Tonda Eckert's side saw two substitutes make the difference, as Shea Charles headed in a 57th-minute equaliser before Archer, with his first touch off the bench, volleyed in the winner in the final minute of normal time.
"Really positive, of course." said Archer, when asked about the energy in the squad at full time, before the match-winner added, "The performance was there, the celebrations were there so yeah, a good match but we put it away already and on to Tuesday."
The striker was called upon in the 88th minute at the Swansea.com Stadium, but he didn't need long to make the crucial difference as his confidence from a goal in midweek was backed up with his telling touch on Saturday afternoon.
"I still had confidence that I'd come on and score and win the match for us." he said.
"Stevo [Jack Stephens] put that confidence into me as well, telling me I'd come on and score and that's why he came running over for the celebrations. Flynn as well so yeah, obviously I know what I was incapable of and I'm glad I made that happen today.
"I think it's one of my first [late winners] so I'm really happy with it. I'll watch it back probably a few times tonight and yeah, I'm just really happy. The most important was those three points and I'm really happy that we got it over the line today."
"it's all about what we can control, probably a lot of the lads have said it but that's what it's all about, staying at it, staying positive, and do what we can do."
Saints' next home match sees us take on Bristol City at St Mary's on Tuesday 21st April (7.45pm BST). Tickets are on general sale now, starting from £25 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.
