Saints welcome Barclays Women’s Super League Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s in the final fixture of the Conti Cup group stage on Sunday.

With Principal Partner Starling Bank having supported a huge ticket giveaway for the fixture, Saints and Spurs are likely to step out in front of one of the biggest crowds in the competition’s history as they meet for the first time.

Rehanne Skinner’s side will need to win the clash in order to secure their place in the quarter-finals and take the pressure off other results in the group.

Spurs will be looking to improve on recent form as well as a convincing 3-0 loss to Everton during midweek which saw defender Ashleigh Neville sent off in the 90th minute.

Saints will also be hoping to put their most recent game behind them, as a depleted side were knocked out of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup following a 2-0 defeat to league rivals Bristol City.

MANAGER’S NOTES

Technical Coach Lauren Phillips provides her take on Sunday’s game while Marieanne Spacey-Cale is away:

“We’ve had a strong week of recovery and training with players returning from illness and we’re in a good place ahead of the weekend.

“It’s a great opportunity to test ourselves against one of the top teams in the country, in the WSL; these are the games you want to compete in.

“It’s the last game for the girls at St Mary’s before Christmas, so hopefully the fans turn out in force and we can make an occasion of it.”
